Vice President Of Engineering

Summary:
The VP of Engineering reports to the CEO, leading the organization towards its primary technological objectives
based on long-term product and profitability goals.
Duties And Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
- Define and implement the strategy, methods, architecture and delivery of
SafeMedia “On-Disk” and “Appliance” products and infrastructure.
- Lead and promote a technical vision for the company in audio and video
spectrum; creating the environment in the technical organization for excellence
in performance, on time delivery of products within budget.
- Convey the company vision, strategy, and roadmap to the entire technical
operations organization, including technical support, quality assurance,
and software development. Advocate the goals and objectives of the technical operations group to
peer groups including marketing, product management, accounting and sales.
- Hands-on leadership of the development and deployment of the “On-Disk “and
“Appliance” according to the product roadmaps. Maintain a strong focus
on product development plans and ensure that SafeMedia’s products are delivered on-time with high
quality and within budget.
- Develop and maintain close working relationships among the national and
international leaders in engineering, quality assurance, technical support
and IT. Advocate open and effective communications throughout the entire organization, both inside
and outside of the technical operations organization.
- Provide advice, guidance, direction, and authorization to carry out major
plans and procedures, consistent with established policies and Board of
Directors direction.
- Develop current and long-range objectives, plans, and policies for the technical
operations organization.
- Create and negotiate technical budgets, resource allocations and product schedules.
- Participate in “build vs. buy” decisions.
- Conduct regular reviews of operations and measure results against plans,
taking corrective action where necessary; while communicating
such results to SafeMedia’s management.
- Analyze and discern competitiveness of new technologies. Help define strategy
to either assimilate or overtake competitive technologies.
- Create and maintain an environment of innovation and execution excellence,
leading a highly skilled engineering staff with a strong
emphasis on research and development.
- Motivate the entire team towards achieving the product engineering objectives.
Incorporate process improvements through feedback mechanisms, and by employing
technical advances in the field of software development.
Requirements:
- 10+ year’s software development experience including 5+ years of management experience,
managing multiple managers. Experience
in network security software required.
- Direct experience with real-time, high-performance filtering software and
building integrated software platforms.
- Hands on experience with C++, windows kernel drivers and BSD/Unix &
Open-Source Developer
- Candidate should demonstrate a successful track record of on-time and within
budget delivery of projects including design,
implementation, testing and final delivery.
- The successful candidate will posses outstanding leadership and people
management skills across all disciplines in a wide spectrum of organizations.
- Candidate must be able to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent and
synchronized projects, both hands on and through subordinate managers.
- Must be a strong motivator with demonstrated ability to develop employee
skills and maximize employee productivity.
- This position requires an individual with strong technical orientation and
working knowledge with network infrastructure, topology and transmission
protocols in addition to the ability to think through the economics of technology and process decisions
to make effective build versus buy decisions.
- Proven ability to forge consensus on development processes and standards and
drive rapid adoption of new processes, tools, and standards across a
product development organization on a continual basis.
- Candidate must show an ongoing commitment to improving the development and
project management process and possess a keen appreciation of the
overriding importance of reliable and responsive software development toolsets, infrastructure, and
supporting teams.
- Applicant must demonstrate a solid ability to work with peers in a collaborative
and productive manner, quickly resolving issues and facilitating
rapid progress towards the company goals and objectives.
- Must have a strong customer focus, with the ability to work closely with Product
Management and insure products meet the needs of target
customers and enjoy a high level of customer satisfaction.
- To perform this job successfully, the right candidate will have knowledge of the
Microsoft Office suite of software including Excel, Word,
PowerPoint and Project, and should have strong development background including C++ and Java design
software, Microsoft Windows platforms, UNIX,
Linux and Novell operating systems.
- Working knowledge and extensive experience in all aspects of networking,
network protocols, network topology, encryption, TCP/IP, audio no
hash real-time digital filters, P2P, audio/vedio watermarking and finger printing, SSL, audio active
content, DRM, intelligent switches, etc.
- Candidate should hold a Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or
university in computer science or closely related field, a Master's degree is preferred.
